Comeback Daniil Medvedev Claims First Championship in Over Two Years

19 of Daniil Medvedev's 21 titles have been earned on hard courts

A comeback the Russian player won his maiden title for over two years with success over opponent Moutet in the tournament championship match.

The Russian, a ex- top-ranked player, has had a difficult season, achieving just one win at the Grand Slams and undergoing a meltdown at the New York tournament.

The player's unpredictability on the ATP Tour - and difficulties with his service game in specific - led to him exiting of the top ten and finally separating with former trainer Gilles Cervara.

Currently training with Thomas Johansson and Goetzke, the tennis star has consistently advanced in the last few weeks - climaxing in a tightly fought 7-5 4-6 6-3 win over opponent Corentin Moutet.

This marks Medvedev's first title since the Rome competition and first on a hard surface since that period of 2023.

The win also means the Russian has secured twenty-one championships at 21 various events.

"It's the first time I'm at a event with my two daughters at once, so to get a title is really nice," said tennis professional Daniil Medvedev.

"This championship is in honour of my second daughter Victoria, because the first title I got when my first daughter my daughter was delivered was for her."

The athlete, the past champion, had lost his previous six championship matches, featuring in that event earlier this year.

Medvedev's retrieving approach and frequent reactions on the playing surface had led observers to question if his ability to perform at the highest level was over.

But the 29-year-old has implemented adjustments in recent weeks, making an effort to come to the net and perform assertively, reinforced by an improved serve.

He recovered from a disadvantage in the opening set against the tricky Frenchman, securing 4 of the last five games to go ahead.

The pair swapped breaks in the second set before the challenger, bidding for his initial ATP Tour title, took control to push for a final set.

He rescued 4 initial chances in a close final set before the Russian broke to fifteen to serve for the match.

Fittingly, Medvedev secured the win with a shot at the net, with Moutet failing to handle a shot after over two and a half hours.
